Overview
Overview
With a past dating to the Vikings, the capital of Denmark is stylish and at times unexpectedly modern. Its cobbled streets hide world-class restaurants, and its historic buildings are home to modern museums and eco-friendly features. Copenhagen is easy to navigate by bike, with many parks and gardens to explore. Or, take a food tour and sample fresh local beer and Danish cheese. Copenhagen is also known to be a progressive city with a lively LGBT scene in its many bars, lounges and clubs.
Marriage Requirements
Same-sex marriage was legalized in Denmark in June of 2012. If you are a US resident, you must have a valid passport showing proof of entry into Denmark and must complete a marriage form, which can be downloaded on the
city of Copenhagen website. If you live outside of the US, a valid residence permit may be required. Check with your Certified Destination Wedding Specialist for details.

The official language of Copenhagen is Danish, though English is widely understood.
Currency
The Danish krone is the official currency of the country.
Climate & Beaches
Climate
Copenhagen is in an oceanic climate zone and is subject to variable changes in weather throughout the seasons. Summer temperatures average around 68 degrees F and the days are long and sunny due to its northern location. Winter can be quiet snowy and see as little as 6 hours of sunlight a day.
Beaches
There are a few beaches off of Copenhagen’s shores, including Amager Strandpark, which is a long artificial island within biking distance of the central downtown.
Activities & Tourist Attractions
Activities
The famed Rosenborg Castle shows you what life would have been like as a 17th century royal taking a summer holiday (hint: it was pretty good). The Nyhavn is where Danish author Hans Christian Andersen dreamed up his classic fables and the area has beautiful fishing wharfs to stroll through. If you’re looking to shop, Torvehallerne has flea and street markets that are fun to wander through, and Church of our Savior has sweeping views of the city when you climb to the top of its spiral.
Nightlife
At night, there is an active LGBT community to be found at dozens of restaurants, bars and clubs, like Copenhagen’s oldest gay bar, Centralhjørnet, or the popular late-night spot—Cosy Bar.
