Overview
Overview
Barcelona is the capital city of Catalonia, a semi-autonomous region along Spain’s northeastern Mediterranean coast. Known for its avant-garde and whimsical gothic buildings, like Gaudi’s iconic Sagrada Família, the city is a visual marvel. From colorfully-tiled sculptures and Picasso collections to towering and ornate churches, the city is best explored wandering from one artistic gem to the next. In between the many marvelous sites, it’s good to make time for a leisurely meal (with good Spanish wine, of course) at any of the city’s outstanding tapas restaurants.

Same-sex marriage became legal in Spain in July of 2005. Couples wishing to marry in Spain must either both have legal residence or one person in the couple must be a Spanish citizen. Refer to your Certified Destination Wedding Specialist for more details.

Activities & Tourist Attractions
Activities
A trip to Barcelona is not complete without a visit to Gaudi’s famed (and unfinished) Sagrada Familia, a World Heritage Site that has been under construction since 1882. As arguably the most famous city in the world for architecture, other must-sees include the whimsical Casa Batlló and Gaudi’s ornate garden Park Güell. There are also a number of old roman plazas (or placas) lined with palm trees and quaint cafes. As one of the world’s foremost beach cities, all visitors to Barcelona should plan an afternoon along one of the city’s glorious Mediterranean beaches.
